Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Putty.info (“we”, “us”) processes information when you visit https://putty.info and related pages on this domain. It applies to visitors, contact-form submitters, and administrators of the site CMS. It does not apply to the official PuTTY project’s own websites, which publish their own policies.

We design diagnostics and educational tools so you should never need to submit passwords, private keys, or production secrets. If a form or tool rejects private-key material, that rejection is intentional.

Information we process

Depending on how you use the site, we may process:

• Technical logs: IP address, timestamp, request path, user agent, referrer, and basic error codes needed to operate reverse proxies, rate limits, and abuse detection.
• First-party analytics: aggregate page-view metrics via the keyword-site network stack (paths viewed, approximate geo derived by the network, and referrers). These metrics help us understand which guides need improvement.
• Contact form data: the fields you voluntarily submit (such as email, category, and message body). Do not include secrets.
• Admin authentication data: credentials and session identifiers for authorized editors of Putty.info, stored with industry-standard password hashing.
• Cookies / local storage: as described in our Cookie Policy, including CSRF/session cookies for security.

We do not require an end-user account to read educational content. Interactive builders on this site are designed to run with client-side or carefully scoped server processing that avoids retaining private keys.

Purposes and legal bases

We process information to: operate and secure the website; understand aggregate content performance; respond to contact requests; maintain editorial quality; detect fraud and abuse; and comply with law. Where consent is required for non-essential cookies or advertising technologies, we seek it through the mechanisms provided by the hosting/ad stack. Legitimate interests include securing educational infrastructure and measuring which troubleshooting articles reduce repeat failures.

Advertising and measurement

Putty.info may display labeled advertising (for example Google AdSense or network ads). Advertising partners may process device and cookie identifiers according to their policies when ads are enabled for this domain. Ads must not impersonate official download buttons. Sharing

We do not sell mailing lists of contact-form submitters. Service providers are instructed to process data to deliver their service to us.

Retention and security

Security logs are retained for a limited operational window unless needed for an active investigation. Contact messages are retained long enough to resolve the request and document abuse patterns. Admin access is limited to authorized operators. No method of transmission over the Internet is perfectly secure; report suspected site compromise via the contact form without including unrelated third-party secrets.

Your choices and rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing, or to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Use the contact form with category Privacy question and enough detail to locate your request (for example approximate time and email used). We may need to verify control of that email. You can also control cookies via browser settings and any consent UI presented for non-essential technologies.

Children

Putty.info is aimed at IT practitioners and learners. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
